Bananas have been consistently available during the lockdown. However they tend to ripen quickly in this summer heat. The solution is easy. I just peel them at the perfect ripe stage and then freeze them in a ziplock bag. They can be used frozen or thawed according to the need.

This smoothie uses frozen bananas which gives the thick and creamy texture and a natural sweetness. It also acts as a substitute for ice in the smoothie. 

So how do you go about making it? Its easy!

Five Ingredient Green Smoothie

Take a handful of washed and dried fresh spinach leaves, one frozen banana chopped into pieces, 8 to10 almonds or a spoonful of almond butter, a handful of frozen blueberries or any berries of your choice and a cup of cold skimmed milk. You could use almond or soy milk if you want to go the non dairy route. No blueberries at hand? Just add a spoonful of any sugar free berry jam or compote. Then, just chuck every thing in a blender and whiz it up till its a nice smooth consistency. You could top it up with some chopped nuts and blueberries if you like. And voila! You have your chilled and healthy smoothie to beat that summer heat, get in your greens for the day and keep those extra calories at bay!
