Fast Disappearing Kale Chips

Who doesn’t like chips ? I surely love them! But I cannot indulge in them guilt free because of the obvious health hazards! Whenever I go to a super market, I can see aisles and aisles filled with chips made from a variety of food stuff some healthy but mostly unhealthy in all shapes, sizes and colours. I have to march along those aisles with a heavy heart, firm mind and determination without reaching out to any of those packets. All these processed foods are totally avoidable as they are loaded with saturated fats, sometimes even trans fats, salt, preservatives and what not! They are bereft of nutrition and are totally addictive so you keep gorging on them non-stop.

Anything home made is obviously full of goodness because of the very fact that it is made fresh and with all good ingredients. I often make these crispy kale chips for snacking. They are easy and quick to make and satiate the junk food cravings despite being healthy. So i don’t miss the potato chips then and can just eat to my hearts content.  So here is an easy way to turn these wholesome kale leaves to chips :

Ingredients 

  1. Almond meal 1/4 cup
  2. Salt to taste 
  3. Pepper 1/2 tsp
  4. Olive oil 1tbsp
  5. Kale 1 Bunch

Method 

  1. Cut the Kale leaves to bite size and discard the rough stalk. Wash throughly and dry them completely.
  2. Put the Kale leaves in a bowl and drizzle olive oil over them. Gently massage the oil on to each and every leaf both sides. 
  3. Sprinkle salt to taste, pepper and almond powder over the leaves to coat them.
  4. Line a baking tray with foil, butter paper or silicon mat. Spread the leaves in single layer and bake in a preheated oven at 175 degrees Celsius for 10-12 minutes or till done. Store in an airtight container after cooling.

It is as simple as it sounds! And you can keep going back to take a handful every time. So now you know what you must do when you go to a super market. Just walk past the chips section and go on straight to the veggies section, pick up the fresh Kale bunch without having to read the nutritional contents and caloric value. Because it will be as healthy as it can be ! Happy and healthy snacking !
